PC floating licenses
Network requirements for floating licenses
ModelSim licensing requires that any PC be connected to a network with
TCP/IP or IPX/SPX. If you are installing ModelSim on a stand-alone PC
with no network server, your machine must be network-ready and capable
of connecting to a network with TCP/IP or IPX/SPX (in effect, a stand-
alone PC is its own server).
The PC or UNIX machine running the FLEXlm server software and serving
a license is considered the server; a PC using a license acquired from a
server is considered the client.
Your server can be one of the following:
A stand-alone PC with a FLEXlm security key attached. (The PC acts
as both server and client.)
A Windows server (95/98/NT) with a security key attached. (The client
has no security key.)
A UNIX server. (The client nor server have a security key; the servers
hostID provides the same locking function as the security key.)
Note: The following server installation information applies to
ModelSim licenses obtained through Model Technology Incorporated. If
you are a Mentor Graphics customer using an MGC license, please
consult MGC documentation for setting up your server.
Installation options for floating licenses
Go to the instructions for the type of installation you are performing:
Setup for a client PC (p13)
Choose this option if your license server is either a PC or a UNIX
machine, but not the machine where you are installing ModelSim.
Setup for a stand-alone PC or PC server (p14)
Choose this option if you are installing on a stand-alone PC, or if you
are setting up a PC as a server.
